We are a Gold Coast-based landscape architectural design studio delivering carefully considered gardens across private residential homes and developments. Our work is grounded in botanical explorations and a belief that good gardens should be quietly felt, responsive to its surroundings, and generous to the people who use it.

About the studio

The Garden Practice is a landscape architecture and horticulture-led design studio creating gardens that feel deeply connected to the people who live in them and the landscapes they belong to. We operate as a design consultancy through close collaboration with homeowners, architects and consultants. Our love for country guides us in the way we work with land and your space. We seek a connection to everything living: people, animals, plants, rocks, earth, water and air.

Our gardens are abundant, graceful and romantic.
They breathe and move, are felt and remembered.

Think blooms and colours in spring,
Pollinators and living texture in summer,
Seed heads and quiet beauty in winter.

How we approach our work:
+ We observe before we intervene.
+ We reveal rather than impose.
+ We think in relationships and cycles.
+ We design from principles, not preferences.
+ We value longevity over novelty.

Candice Teok, Founder
AILA Registered Landscape Architect
Masters of Landscape Architecture (Distinction), RMIT University
Bachelors of Landscape Architecture (Distinction), RMIT University
Diploma in Environment Design

Candice founded The Garden Practice to create thoughtful, context-driven gardens that combine design craft and environmental responsibility. Her design journey grew from an abiding fascination with plants. Moving beyond just how they grow, but how they shape the way we feel, gather, and experience the world around us. As a Registered Landscape Architect, her work spans from urban courtyards and rooftop retreats to sweeping coastal and rural gardens. No matter the scale, she approaches every project as an opportunity to blend ecological performance with a beautiful, natural aesthetic.

Her approach is shaped by a decade of industry experience, including formative years spent with the renowned Melbourne practice OPENWORK. Immersed in their celebrated culture of craft and design excellence, Candice developed a disciplined eye for detail and a collaborative spirit, working closely alongside leading architects, builders, and developers to bring complex visions to life.

Alongside practice, Candice has contributed to the academic community since 2016 as a Sessional Tutor, lecturing into the Landscape Architecture program at RMIT University, extending her interest in the representation and communication of landscape. She also served as a Co-Chair for the Education Committee (VIC Chapter) with the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects. She was the receipient of the 2015 RMIT Landscape Architecture Design Research Practice Prize, a Robin Edmond Award Nomination and the Jim Sinatra Student Award in both 2013 and 2014.
